<p>textz.com Complete Historical-Critical Edition ARG: The Forum

Are people still using this forum? I just got here myself, I'll admit I'm a little lost as to how this ARG works.I'm actually new to ARG's in general so forgive me if I have no idea what's going on or what to do >.< And yes, I am completely serious about this, it's a little hard for me to understand but I actually want to figure this thing out.

Well, my friend, that makes two of us (if you're still attempting this.) I'm also new to ARG's. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've haven't attempted to do something like this before. Hopefully, you'll respond, though I'm pretty sure you won't; you're probably deep into the game now.

Okay. You're looking for 1024 bytes of information, presumably some sort of key.

The first 192 bytes are already out there. Some are trivial -- for example, you know that E... and F... are literally "E..." and "F..."

Also, as discussed below, the image on the front page of textz.com keeps changing (arg01.png to arg04.png so far), and they all have some lyrics on them. Unclear what they mean in the context of the ARG though.

For most other issues, Google and Wikipedia are a good start. And if you have any more specific questions, let us know.

whats your image called?

mine was:

looks like a sha1 hash, but could not find it in any rainbow table.

whats in your email footer?

mine was:

My image is 2B8CE61EA28AFD65051D74AAC225CD72C9D99044.png, and I got the exact same footer.

Also note that the image on textz.com has changed, from textz.com/png/arg01.png to textz.com/png/arg02.png. But there is no textz.com/png/arg03.png yet.

UPDATE: arg03.png is up now. Still not sure what to do with the song references though.

Extracting data from the personalized shopping cart image turns out to be pretty straightforward, given the method in "steganography 101". And finding salt and payload isn't too difficult either.

Still waiting for email response back with personalised picture.

arg04.png (midday 22nd AEST) is up, more song lyrics.

In the email footer: the only two characters that don't appear on the middle row of a QWERTY keyboard are 'z' and 'v'. Is there a tool for typing or inputting data using only the middle row?

-BEN

Update: There's no data hiding at the end of the arg files, the proper IEND marker is at the end of each.

What about just hitting keys on your keyboard? I get this:

KFJ - Let me try again - are there any ciphers that come to mind that use 11 characters?

Hmmm... can't think of any. Base 11, of course, but I doubt it is that.

Did you check 2012%20Quarantine/00%20Cover.jpg though? ;)

Alright, text goes to the bottom of the page, gotcha. If I happen to find something new I'll post it here, thanks for the clarification.

This was posted on IRC:

well, I did the trigonometry and ended up at that familiar spot: https://www.google.de/maps/@48.7792024,9.180337,3a,70.2y,171.21h,78.88t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1smDX-pkiCNl7yE859XJR1BA!2e0>

So, the last line is WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWXYYYZZZZ

And we need to solve for a couple things. W would appear to be in the zipped file here, given that the file there is "0960-1016.zip" : http://hostb.org/1J>

Not sure what the password for opening that file is. Need to research some crackers for that.

The last letters XYYYZZZZ have been revealed in part through a secret key here : http://www.reddit.com/r/ARG/comments/2mzbvv/textzcomargview_source/cmy1ieq>

Applying atob(ZZZZ) I believe gives us ;ýO

Substituting those for YYY as in the last update means that at present we have

WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWX;ýOO/1P

For the final line. But how to break open that zipped file?

((

XA.TO/1P is not the secret key. I got one from christ@wkv-stuttgart.de, after bugging them for several days. atob(ZZZZ) is "foo", I find that more pleasing.

The Real XW Yokomoto suggests on reddit that XA.TO/1P is a URL, and I think he is right: http://www.reddit.com/r/ARG/comments/2mzbvv/textzcomargview_source>

Ah thanks KFJ! I think I think I'm in to W now. Almost got caught by Google Security though.

Did anyone find the password for the CHCE?

I can't seem to locate the URL for /99/73/.. — any help?

// it's no URL, it's a file in the CHCE.zip

Thank you so much. That makes more sense. However — with apologies for being computationally daft — I fear I can't open textz.com.arg.zip from the torrent. Fully appreciate the help! (Very eager to see the CHCE, despite my ARG fail, avid reader of textz.)
